I didn’t start my family in the conventional way. I got engaged, got pregnant, got married, had a beautiful baby girl named Sadie, moved to Atlanta, and when Sadie was 6 months old, I adopted a 9 month old rescue named Wally.
When we first announced to our families we were considering getting a dog, we were told it was a terrible idea. When I researched online what it was like to get a dog with a baby, most stories ended in giving up the dog. Despite all of this, after a trial week of Wally living with us, we decided to keep him. I’ve created this blog with the intention of documenting what it is like for other families contemplating this decision.
A few caveats: Sadie is not a newborn and neither is Wally. (A lot of the posts I found online were from families who got a newborn puppy with a newborn baby.) Wally also came to us potty trained, crate trained, and able to sit on command.
